Who we are...

The Illinois Assocation for Play Therapy is an independent state branch affiliated with the Association for Play Therapy a national organization promoting the use and validity of play therapy. The purpose of ILAPT is to provide a forum for the discussion of play therapy ideas and concerns.

Our goals are to:

1. Provide ongoing professional development of members
2. Provide training, research and the development of materials which further promote the practice of play therapy.
3. Provide a forum for active communication regarding play therapy
4. Inform and educate the general public and the mental health community concerning the role of play therapy in referral, assessment and treatment
5. Advance high standards of professional conduct
6. Advocate for the rights of children, their families, and significant others.

What is play therapy??

The systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.
